TINATAYANG nagkakahalaga ng P1.68 million undeclared cellular phone mula China ang nasabat ng Bureau of Custom -Port of Cebu.

Ayon sa report na ipinarating sa tanggapan ni Custom Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno, nasabat ng mga ahente ng BOC–Port of Cebu, mula sa kanilang Subport ng Mactan, ang 12 packages na naglalaman ng 247 units ng branded mobile phones na nagmula China nitong nakalipas na linggo na tinatayang nagkakahalaga ng P1,679,617.

Unang idineklara na personal effects, ang nasabat na shipment subalit nang lumitaw ang mga kuwestyunableng x-ray images ay inutos na isailalim ito sa physical examination.

Sa isinagawang physical examination, sa harap ng mga kinatawan ng Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service, Enforcement and Security Service, X-ray Inspection Project, nadiskubre ang undeclared commercial quantities ng mobile phones na salungat sa declaration ng mga kargamento.

Agad na nagpalabas ng Warrant of Seizure and Detention (WSD) si District Collector Alexandra Yap-Lumontad laban sa nasabing kontrabando dahil sa paglabag sa Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (RA 10863).

Ayon kay Yap-Lumontad, pagtalima lamang ito sa direktiba ni Commissioner Ariel F. Nepomuceno na paigtingin ang pagsawata sa mga kaso ng misdeclaration, misclassification, at undervaluation.

“This case highlights how the application of new inspection protocols introduced by the District Collector has allowed us to detect irregularities at any point in the process. When declarations do not match with the documents presented for inspection, appropriate enforcement action follows,” paliwanag naman ni Subport of Mactan Port Collector Gerardo A. Campo.

“Their vigilance and teamwork made this success possible, and it’s a reminder of what we can accomplish when we all do our part,” ani Nepomuceno.”
